The Guardians have had another great year with book two being released and attending their very first book signing at OUAB 2018.
Got to introduce many people to their first book The Secret Sanctuary..
And bring their new story with me..
It was a great time for everyone including my husband and son who went with me to support me. I am looking forward to OUAB 2019 next July and will also be attending Authors and Dancers against Cancer in Toledo OH, March 2019.
Winter is fast approaching here in Michigan, which is a time this author stays mostly indoors. More than normal, well okay I’m not much of an outdoor person but winter time is still worse. Which means if I’m not working or going to store for something that is needed you won’t see me out of the house. No snowmen for this girl.
On my OUAB 2018 post I had attempted to post some pictures of the event but for some reason it didn’t take, so am going to try again. Cross your fingers for me 😉
This was my very first book signing and I have to say that I am glad I chose OUAB to be my first. I met so many wonderful people there, readers and authors! The panel Friday morning was very informative and gave me a lot of information that I am still trying to process lol. Loved seeing Stacey Rouke again, I really wish I could bottle her energy and enthusiasm.
There were really too many authors and readers that I met to name, and I would really feel bad if I ended up forgetting one. I know, an author who can’t remember names, how do I write a series when I have trouble remembering names? Well, that is why I have tons of notes EVERYWHERE!
I do want to say that if anyone loves books and loves meeting the authors that OUAB is the perfect place to go. There are so many talented authors and all had smiles on their faces. My table mate was very friendly, loved the advice she was giving to a first timer, along with the wrist warmers for those nights when it is a little chilly but you still want to read.
I will be attending next years and I might even get the hubby to dress up for the superhero party the night before 😉 (cross your fingers for me). If anyone is interested the link is below:
Took me a break when we got home from the signing, something that my other half insisted on doing. Seems he thought I was stressing out too much and needed a break, no idea what would give him that idea (hides the dozen or so destroyed stress balls). But now I am rested up and prepared to start writing again and bringing the Guardians back to life for all of you!
The Dragoon library was quiet and peaceful, not a place you would expect to see Chad at and with the chalkboard from the Lair set up. But there he was this Saturday morning, sitting at one of the tables in the back of the library. Couldn’t take the chance of anyone seeing him after all.
He looked around to make sure not only that the librarian wasn’t in sight, she tends to get a bit touchy when people speak in the library, but also that there was no one that he knew. Now the latter wasn’t an easy feat in their small town, practically everyone knew everyone.
Pulling out a piece of chalk he writes A Moment With Chad on the chalkboard and grins.
“I know, I know. Seeing me in a library is a shock for everyone out there who knows me.” He grinned. “But this episode of A Moment with Chad is about books, so what better place than a library to have it.”
Standing up he started walking back and forth in front of the chalkboard, making furtive glances as he does. Tapping the chalk on his bottom lip. “As everyone knows our great storyteller, and I call her that cause she writes the best stories.” Winks. “Any story with me in it has to be the best.”
A cough had him turning quickly but when there wasn’t another sound he turned back. “As I was saying, our great storyteller will be attending a book signing in exactly one week from today. I am sure many of you have already heard about it and are just as excited as we are.”
Walking up to the chalkboard he drew two boxes right beside each other, put squiggly lines in them and wrote the book above them. “So, in honor of her I am dedicating this segment of A Moment with Chad to her. T.L. Shively, this segment is for you.”
Chad wrote the word Bibliosmia on the board and then turned around grinning.
“Bibliosmia is the word used for loving the smell of books.” He stopped and his lips pressed together. “I bet I.Q. suffers from this. Wonder if it is contagious?” With a thoughtful look on his face he leaned against the cart that was next to him.
One problem. The cart had wheels.
The cart started rolling and Chad, who hadn’t expected that, ended up on his butt on the floor watching the cart roll down the set of three stairs that led to the lower part of the library in horror. The sound of the crash of the cart onto the floor below could be heard through the whole library along with the librarian hollering out who was back there.
Chad jumped up and grabbed his chalkboard, easel and chalk. Looking frantically about for the back door he whispered. “Remember you never seen me.” Then as the noise of people rushing to investigate came closer he hurried out the back door.
Chad closes the door to the basement of the Guardians Lair and looks around to make sure none of his friends are around. He knew I.Q. was at the local library which made no sense to him, who went to a library when they didn’t have to? It was summer vacation after all.
All their families were getting together later to celebrate Father’s day at the new water park that had been built. So everyone else was getting ready for that. Chad wanted to take this time while the others were busy to come down to the Lair for his episode of A Moment With Chad.
And to make sure that he wouldn’t be interrupted he froze the door before walking down the stairs and starting his second episode.
Writing on the chalk board A Moment With Chad he turned around and grinned at everyone. “Okay, in honor of father’s day, this episode of A Moment With Chad is dedicated to the letter F!” He grinned as he wrote on the chalkboard.
Most American car horns honk in the key of F!
He put the chalk down and gave a bow before walking up the stairs and pulling on the door, frowning when it wouldn’t open. He slammed his fist on the door when he realized he had not only frozen his friends out but also frozen himself in. Turning to give everyone an abashed look.
“Let’s not speak of this when we see the others okay? You guys get back to your father’s day activities while I see about finding a way out of here without breaking anything.”
The Guardians had entered their Lair looking for their lost Guardian. When they met up at the Wolf Den Chance had showed up without his brother, Chad was suppose to meet them there but several hours later they messaged him telepathically only for him to give them noncommittal hmmms and mmhmmms.
They were able to locate him at their Lair and decided to go there and pull the Iceman out by his feet if need be. Cole said he could always smoke him out but as Tia reminded him, they needed that Lair and not burnt to a crisp.
“Like your cooking?”
Telara rolled her eyes as a gust of wind had Cole rolling across the lawn. Good thing it was getting late and no one was about.
As they entered the Lair and headed down the basement stairs they all stood in shock at the sight before them.
“Is that a book?” I.Q. was the first to break the silence but Chad didn’t look up or acknowledge them.
Chance walked over to where his brother was reading bending over to read the book. “Isn’t that one the one Uncle Leroy gave you?”
“Yes, now go away.”
They were all curious now.
“Get away!” Chad pushed Cole away from him as he tried to see what Chad was reading.
“Well, there’s pictures in it.” Vanna said grinning looking over Chad’s shoulder.
“Useless facts you will never use in your life.” Telara laughed reading the title. “Well, if you were going to read a book that is perfect for you Chad.”
“Hardy har har.” He grinned at them. “Joke all you want but I’m going to use this book to get more admirers than all of you combined.”
“Admirers?” They weren’t sure what he was talking about.
“Yeah, all the admirers out there who read our stories.” They weren’t sure where he was going with this but they decided to listen. “I am going to amaze them all with these useless facts.” He waved the book at them. “I’ll call it A Moment With Chad.”
“What exactly is A Moment With Chad?” Tia looked at Telara who wasn’t sure she wanted the answer either.
“I’m glad you asked.” He grinned and walked over to a chalkboard that they hadn’t realized was there. Writing on the board, making the screeching sound that sent shivers down their spines and then standing back grinning proudly.
There on the chalkboard was written the words A Moment With Chad and underneath was written: Flashlights got their name because early batteries had such a short life, they were flashed on and off to conserve energy.
“The best gift Uncle Leroy ever gave me.” He grinned and walked upstairs whistling.
“Isn’t your Uncle Leroy the one you said wears swim fins to Thanksgiving dinner?” Vanna whispered to Chance who just nodded watching his brother leave.
“What are you doing?” Tia’s question turned their heads and they saw Cole up at the chalkboard. He was erasing and then rewriting with that same screeching noise. When he stepped back he had changed the title of Chad’s little new project from A Moment With Chad to Chad’s Useless Moment.
Laughter filled the Lair but Chad had already left thinking about how his great idea and having no idea what his best bud had done.
